AI+Corpus Based Teaching Material

 Helooo <3

I'm glad that it hasn't been so long.😌 I'm officially here with my first assignment. It's about a recent topic we learned: corpus. A corpus is basically a huge digital collection of real-life language examples taken from books, news, conversations, and websites. Instead of learning grammar from rules alone, students can look at how people actually use the language in real contexts.

In our first assignment, we worked collaboratively with my friends Sıla-silaghtlyconfusingideas.blogspot.com and Bernis- https://bernislearning.blogspot.com

In this assignment, our goal was to create a lesson that not only teaches the topic we chose but also allows students to discover the rules themselves through real language data. To achieve this, we paired two tools: SKELL for corpus searches and ChatGPT for inductive explanation. Alongside the worksheets, we developed a full lesson plan using the ASSURE instructional design model, which helped us structure each stage clearly, from analyzing learners to planning assessment and revision.

The worksheets start by testing students’ prior knowledge, then guides them toward hands-on corpus exploration. This is followed by an inductive reasoning task where students compare their own observations with ChatGPT’s explanation. Finally, they complete controlled and open-ended production tasks. We also wanted the worksheets to be visually appealing and student-friendly, so we incorporated color, structure, and simple instructions to keep learners engaged.

However, implementing this material in a real classroom could present some challenges. First, students may become overly dependent on AI output rather than analyzing the corpus themselves, so careful teacher guidance is necessary. Second potential issue is students’ varying levels of digital literacy—some may navigate the tools confidently, while others may need more support. Despite these challenges, I believe our material offers a valuable and modern way to help learners understand grammar through authentic data and guided discovery.
